
Rachel started her career in New York City as a freelance printer and assistant to several well known photographers, including Robert Farber and Gordon Munro. Within a year, she was managing Pete Turner's studio and doing high level electronic imaging at the birth of the digital revolution in photography.
After spending a year as Pete's studio manager, Rachel was hired by a British firm to set up an electronic studio, where she specialized in advetising and commercial photography for an international clientele.
A couple of the pieces she produced in this period won in two categories of the Ilford awards; Advertising and Electronic Imaging. It was the first time that a single photographer had won two simultaneous categories in the history of the prestigious competition.
Several years later, Rachel returned to the states and opened her own studio where she contributed to album covers for labels like Geffen, I.R.S., Warner and MCA for bands such as Sublime, Slash, Pat Metheney, and the Stone Roses as well as many advertisements and Magazine covers. Rachel continues to indulge her passion for photography and was recently honored with an award in the APA:NY anual photo competition.
She then joined Digital Domain as visual effects artist, where she did pioneering work on many A-list feature films, while contributing heavily to the interface design and inplimentation of Nuke, the in house composting software.
Ten years ago, Rachel got back benind the camera as a cinematographer.
In addition to shooting numerous long and short format narratives, documentaries and music videos, in 2005 she also received an award for Best Cinematography for her work on Stephen King's Gotham Cafe from the International Festival of Science Fiction and Horror.
Her distinctive visual style has evolved from 30 years of experience in still photography, as well as more than fifteen years of hands-on A-list VFX experience, and gives her a unique and highly informed insight into shooting for todays complex production pipelines, and places her at the cutting edge of the digital cinematography revolution.
